Zero Emission School Bus Program

Electrifying Our Community's School Buses for a Cleaner, Healthier Monterey Bay Region

CCCE and Monterey Bay Air Resources District (MBARD) have partnered to fund 100% of the cost to replace at least six traditional school buses with electric buses.

Who is Eligible?

School districts located within the counties of Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz who are customers of MBCP are eligible to apply for electric bus funding covering the entire cost of an electric school bus.

This energy program helps ensure your school district has the opportunity to replace your diesel school buses with clean running electric buses and reduce overhead costs while improving local air quality.

Where does the funding come from?

CCCE has allotted up to $200,000 in funding per bus during its current fiscal year, while MBARD leverages multiple state funding programs for the remaining balance of each of the six electric buses.

CCCE and MBARD share a goal of improving air quality by reducing local greenhouse gas emissions and are proud to be teaming up on this important, first of its kind electrification program.
The Process:

Charging Your New Electric School Bus

In addition to eBus funding, MBARD has reserved $20,000 in charging infrastructure funding available to applicants in need of a charging station.

The Impact

According to CCCE’s Electrification Strategic Plan, each diesel-powered school bus replaced by an electric bus is projected to avoid an estimated 20 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions (MTCO2e) with a program total of 120 (MTCO2e) each year. The equivalent of over 132,000 lbs. of coal burned per year.
Applications for this partner program will be accepted by MBARD beginning June 17, 2020 at 10 AM.
*Applying prior to this date and time makes you ineligible for MBCP funding.*
