Central Coast Community Energy Selects Robert Shaw as New CEO

December 20, 2022

Shaw brings extensive organizational, regulatory, customer, and energy sector experience

MONTEREY, Calif., Dec. 20, 2022 – The Board of Directors of Central Coast Community Energy (CCCE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert Shaw as Chief Executive Officer. In his most recent role as Chief Operating Officer for CCCE, Shaw provided oversight for the agency’s Power Supply Resources and Energy Programs departments, procuring more than 1,000 megawatts of new renewable energy storage and generation to serve an approximate 1.5 million population on the Central Coast, and deploying nearly $20 million in energy programs’ commitments to help residents and businesses electrify local building and transportation sectors.

Shaw succeeds Tom Habashi, who announced his resignation from the agency in September. His appointment comes after an extensive selection process by the board, which included soliciting public input through a community survey.

“Rob impressed the board with his vision, intellect, and professionalism,” Steve McShane, Chair of CCCE’s Policy Board, said. “He has shepherded growth and change during his time at CCCE thus far, and we have no doubt he will continue to forge a positive path ahead as our new CEO.”

Shaw has experience leading successful teams across a range of disciplines. Additionally, he is well-versed in finance, rate design, wholesale energy markets, regulatory matters, and emerging energy technologies. In accepting the position, Shaw emphasized his commitment to working with the agency’s boards and community stakeholders to eliminate the use of fossil fuels for energy generation.

“Central Coast Community Energy has established itself as a transformative leader delivering meaningful climate action focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions by aggressively decarbonizing the electrical grid and delivering innovative electrification programs,” said Shaw. “I am incredibly grateful that the Board, my staff, and our communities have entrusted me with the responsibility to push forward our mission to achieve 100% clean and renewable energy by 2030; 15 years ahead of statewide goals.”

“We are thrilled to have Rob in the CEO role,” said Carlos Palacios, Chair of the Operations Board of Directors. “He is a proven leader with the ability to expand on the success and foundation CCCE has built over the past 5 years and take us into the next phase of standardizing operations and increasing engagement with the boards and our communities.”
