Leeward Renewable Energy Begins Construction on 100-megawatt Rabbitbrush Solar Project

Leeward Renewable Energy, Central Coast Community Energy (CCCE) and Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE), announced that construction has commenced on the Rabbitbrush Solar project located in Kern County, California. Leeward previously signed two 15-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with CCCE and SVCE.

The Rabbitbrush Solar Project will bring significant economic investment to Kern County, including benefits for local businesses. It is expected to generate roughly 300 new union jobs secured under a project labor agreement, during construction, as well as long-term operations jobs. When fully operational, Rabbitbrush will generate enough clean solar energy to serve the needs of nearly 40,000 homes per year, displacing approximately 48,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually—the equivalent of taking 10,500 cars with internal combustion engines off the road.

Central Coast Community Energy Announces Local Energy Storage Projects in Monterey and Santa Barbara Counties

Central Coast Community Energy announced four new energy storage projects located within its service area. All projects came to fruition in response to CCCE’s Local Energy Storage Resiliency Project Request for Proposals issued in June of this year, with two additional storage projects still under consideration in San Benito and Santa Cruz Counties, one of which includes solar generation. CCCE received a total of 21 proposals from 16 developers.
“These local energy storage projects will create jobs, support the effectiveness of standalone energy storage, contribute to statewide grid stability, and support California’s transition to clean and renewable energy,” shared CCCE CEO, Tom Habashi. “Long duration energy storage plays an integral role in all of this. Central Coast Community Energy is proud to be innovating with emerging technologies within our service area.”

Central Coast Community Energy Launches Expanded Electrify Your Ride Program

Central Coast Community Energy launched an updated version of its successful Electrify Your Ride energy program, providing CCCE customers with access to $2.8 million in rebates for electric-powered transportation including purchased or leased new and pre-owned electric vehicles (EVs), motorcycles, and bicycles.
Electrify Your Ride rebates also cover costs associated with the purchase and installation of chargers to power up EVs at homes and workplaces including labor and related electric panel updates or replacement, part of a CCCE Energy Program “readiness” measure designed to prepare customers for more all-electric conversions such as appliances and water heaters.
