$295,000 Energy Program Fund Provides Valuable Resources to Accelerate Electrification and Regional EV Adoption
Monterey, CA. April 22, 2021 – In celebration of Earth Day, Central Coast Community Energy (3CE) today launched the 3CE Charge Your Ride home EV charger rebate program, offering rebates to support the accelerated adoption of EVs within 3CE’s Central Coast service area. Homeowners and multi-family property owners may apply for rebates designed to cover an EV charger unit plus any related electrical work, from a simple plug installation to a full electric panel upgrade. The Charge Your Ride program compliments 3CE’s Electrify Your Ride program by covering the majority of EV charger and electrical labor costs.
Homeowners may receive a rebate up to $400 for a Level-2 network capable EV charger and up to $2,000 for electrical work for a max rebate of $2,400 while multi-family property owners may receive up to $1,000 for Level-2 network capable EV Chargers (max 3) and up to $7,000 for electrical work (70% max of project cost) for total potential savings of $10,000. Rebates for income-qualified homeowners and affordable housing multi-family property owners come in at a much higher rebate of up to $10,000 (up to 100% of project cost) toward projects including Level 2 network capable charger (s) and electrical work.
“One of the biggest barriers to EV adoption is EV charging and overcoming range anxiety” shares 3CE Director of Energy Programs Jon Griesser, “while Central Coast Community Energy has brought $7MM in EV charging infrastructure to the Central Coast in public and business settings, community members are more likely to switch to an EV with access to a convenient and reliable way to charge at home. This program helps customers cover the cost of level 2 chargers and associated electrical work in older homes to support the installation of an EV charger. This electrical work will in turn also support the further electrification of appliances in the future as our agency continues to roll out more residential energy programs.”
3CE’s Charge Your Ride program brings the agency’s Energy Program benefits close to home while aiming to support the state’s goal of reaching 5 million zero-emission vehicles on the road by 2030, a crucial step toward reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions locally throughout its Central Coast service area. Program applications will be accepted through September 30, 2021.
The Charge Your Ride program runs in tandem with and supports the Electrify Your Ride EV Incentive program which is live through June 30, 2021 and has received 112 applications since its February 2021 launch.
“3CE continues to design and fund impactful programs that create meaningful greenhouse gas reduction while supporting the electrification of our Central Coast” shares 3CE CEO, Tom Habashi. “3CE is excited to continue accelerating the electrification of the transportation sector to reduce climate impacts locally.”
3CE Energy Programs are aimed at reducing GHG emissions in the three sectors which emit the most emissions: transportation, buildings and agriculture, as well as additional efforts to improve regional energy resiliency. By providing incentives to electrify infrastructure, equipment and everyday resources used by residential, commercial and agricultural customers, 3CE is making the greatest impact possible and making resources available to all types of customers.
